about

Brad Allen has an intense passion, or obsession, with photography.  Since the age of twelve, taking pictures has fascinated him.  He has a solid background in many of the traditional skills that are being phased out of modern photography programs.  Many of these skills such as darkroom printing and film processing are integral to the foundations of photography.  As digital photography becomes more prevalent, these basic foundations become even more important.

Brad’s photographic education began with a mentorship with a family friend at the age of fourteen.  He began reading every book he could get his hands on.  During high school and college, Brad studied photography and printing techniques, this lead to a two year internship with a commercial photographer.  This internship exposed him to a whole new world of cutting-edge photographic processes that influenced much of his current work.

He was introduced to the wedding industry through one of the southeast’s leading wedding photographers.  After assisting for approximately five years, High Contrast Studios was born.  As the name implies, Brad’s work is different from many of his peers.  He combines traditional and experimental skills with cutting edge technology and methods to create images and products that you won’t find just anywhere.

Brad is an amazing digital retoucher.  This is one of the many areas of expertise where you will really begin to notice the difference in his level of skill and ability.  Most of the portraits are automatically retouched (at no additional charge) to produce the best possible result.  Other images are retouched at the request of the client.

His eclectic style is fun and easy to be around.  Brad’s method is fluid and flexible.  This low-pressure approach helps to make your special day a relaxing one.  His style most closely resembles that of the photojournalistic approach, but Brad incorporates aspects of several “styles” to create images.  “My style is a tailored way of shooting to suit your needs.”

“I treat each client as an individual project.  This enables me to create images that are personal and unique.”   My equipment selection includes 35mm, medium format, and large format film cameras as well as different digital cameras.  Brad also uses several experimental cameras and lenses to create images that cannot be reproduced.
